Celebrating Activity Professionals in Mentor Nursing Home

Jennifer, Mentor Ridge Activities Director

January 24, 2020
Mentor, Ohio - In honor of National Activity Professionals Week – Mentor Ridge Health and Rehabilitation would like to recognize the activity professionals at our facility Jennifer, our Activities Director, and Ilene, the Activities Assistant, for their phenomenal efforts in improving and enriching the daily lives of our residents. Thank you, Jennifer and Ilene, for all that you do! Mentor Ridge Health and Rehabilitation is lucky to have you apart of their team!

Jennifer is an activity director certified and a certified dementia practitioner who has over 20 years of experience providing quality of life recreational programming for residents of long term care communities.

"My path to a career in this field was illuminated while visiting my mom in a rehab/long term care facility in my home state of Maryland. I noticed how residents who appeared lethargic and apathetic brightened when offered eye contact, a smile, and a greeting. Also, my mother's mood, verbal skills, and general interest in her surroundings improved after attending a group program.

I realized that it doesn't matter if a person lives to be 110 if their last years are spent in boredom. Every person has a right to engage in their interests, whether those interests include being in big lively groups, or binge-watching afternoon TV shows. Every individual needs to be met where he/she is."
Jennifer enjoys the creative work of activity programming and feels that it's been a good day if she can help her residents feel empowered, happy, and motivated. Everyone deserves to have fun, feel needed, and realize their worthiness. She and her mighty assistant, Ilene, try their hardest to enhance the quality of life for each resident of The Ridge.

Jennifer has been a grateful member of the Mentor Ridge Mighty Ducks since they first flocked together. She loves working in this beautiful facility that offers so many outside spaces for residents to get fresh air and sunshine in appropriate weather.
Jennifer is also a certified yoga teacher at the 500-hour level, a certified Reiki Master, and a certified laughter yoga leader. She is a proud mother of one adult son and is looking forward to watching him walk across the stage to accept his college diploma this spring. In her bits of spare time, she enjoys reading, gardening, writing, exploring the magnificent emerald necklace, and spending time with her husband, their three spoiled cats, and two extremely spoiled dogs.

Irene, Mentor Ridge Activities Assistant

Ilene was told in the past by family members and peers that she should get a job in the medical field because she has always been great at making people happy. So after 21 years of working in multiple areas that required her to provide more physical labor/assistance then emotional- Ilene decided to apply for the activities assistant at mentor ridge. Ilene has been with the company since November 21, 2019. She enjoys working with the residents on a one on one basis, making them laugh and smile. Ilene states, "It warms my heart when I see the happiness in their eyes when they see me and when they get excited doing stuff with me. I love making others happy and here I can do that. I listen to them when their hearts are heavy and try to help them feel better."

When Ilene is not working, she enjoys spending time with friends, cooking/baking, crafting, spending time with her cat, Tooties, helping provide for the homeless, and hiking when weather permits.
